Neutral Wrist, New Year’s Resolutions-Start Now, Core: More Than Just Abs

Neutral Wrist

The wrist is a weak joint, but it is controlled by strong muscles, which can lead to problems such as carpal tunnel and elbow tendonitis.  The forces these muscles can apply at the wrist and elbow are the cause of the issues. To help reduce these forces, keep the wrist as neutral as possible and move the arms as much as possible.

New Year’s Resolutions-Start Now

The average person gains just shy of a pound during the holiday season from overeating and drinking. A pound does not seem like much, but the problem is that most people do not lose it afterwards.  Every extra pound is more stress on the body as a whole, from muscles and joints to heart and lungs.  Start with good habits now by burning a few extra calories a day by going for an evening walk and enjoying the holiday lights.  Avoid the sweets table and drink plenty of water to avoid excessive drinking.

Core: More Than Just Abs

Having strong abs will help with body stabilization, but the core is more than just the abs or what most people think of as the six-pack; it includes the obliques (side abdominal muscles) and lower back muscles, ensuring balance.  If one side of the body becomes too strong, it will pull the weaker side out of alignment.  Strong abs and a far weaker lower back can cause pain and discomfort.
