Holiday Decorating Ergonomics
Tis the season for decorating! The holiday season is upon us. Just like Santa’s workshop, many hands make light work. Enlist the family or friends when lifting heavy or awkward objects. Ensure ladder safety when decorating aloft. Consider decreasing time in static posture tasks such as wrapping gifts by rotating tasks or taking a break. Pre plan the task and assure all work areas are free from tripping hazards prior to starting. Consider adding a pre decorating warmup and stretch to give your musculoskeletal system the gift of health this season!
Healthy Travel Tips
It is estimated that about 65 percent of Americans plan on traveling during this holiday season. Here are some tips to keep you healthy during this holiday season.
Keep hydrated. Long car rides and flights can increase dehydration.
Wash your hands! Use soap and water and hand sanitizer if unable to wash your hands to prevent the spread of germs.
Pack healthy snacks to fuel your body.
Priority rest. Travel can increase stress and take a toll on your body. Prioritizing sleep and rest can allow your immune system to work optimally to prevent illness during the holidays.
Suspension Training
Suspension Training is a type of strength training that uses suspended straps providing an unstable environment to train using your body weight. This type of training has been shown to increase core muscle engagement, improve strength, power, proprioception, and functional performance. A popular suspension training system is made by a company called TRX, but there are other systems on the market that are similar. If you are looking for a body weight resistance training program, suspension training might be just the thing to incorporate into your workout routine.
