Proper Way to Stand from Lying, Single Leg Romanian Deadlifts (RDLs), Low Sodium Diet

Proper Way to Stand from Lying

Standing up from a prone or lying-down position seems self-explanatory, but doing it incorrectly can increase stress on the spine and vertebral discs and raise injury risk.  The safest way to get up from a lying-down position is the same way a baby would: start by getting to your stomach and, from there, get on all fours (hands and knees). Then stand up, using a chair or table for support if needed. This greatly reduces stress and the risk of back injury.

Single Leg Romanian Deadlifts (RDLs)

Single-leg RDLs are great for improving balance and strengthening the back side of your body. Single-leg RDLs, rather than a standard RDL, allow you to get close to the same effect with far less weight while improving balance, an essential skill. Start with a straight back, lift one leg, and hinge at the hip. Bend until you feel a stretch in the back of your leg or your hand touches the ground.  If bodyweight alone gets too easy, add weights, starting light and progressing slowly.

Low Sodium Diet

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among adults. The average American’s diet contains three times the recommended daily amount of sodium.  Higher sodium intake can lead to water retention and increased stress on the cardiovascular and renal systems. To reduce sodium in your diet and body, eat more fresh foods and drink more water, while avoiding processed foods and limiting added salt.
