Sustained Neck Posture, National Picnic Month, Neck Stretch
SUSTAINED NECK POSTURE
Most people link neck discomfort with computer and cellphone use, but electrical utility workers also experience it from sustained neck postures while working. Prolonged positions, whether looking up at utility poles or down into manholes and substation basements, can lead to discomfort in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. To reduce this risk, try stepping back to decrease neck angle, and make sure to practice micro-pause breaks and reverse cervical posture regularly.
NATIONAL PICNIC MONTH
July is National Picnic Month, which means it is a perfect time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine with family and friends. Try new recipes and explore different local parks to embrace the element of relaxation that nature provides, all while making lasting memories with your loved ones. So grab your blanket and basket, and make the most of this summer tradition!
NECK STRETCH
Use these lateral and rotation/flexion neck stretches to reduce tension and enhance neck range of motion.
1. Sit or stand with a straight posture. Place one arm behind your back and slowly tilt your head to the opposite shoulder. Once you feel a gentle stretch, hold this position for 20-30 seconds.
2. While still tilting your head towards your shoulder, rotate your head to look downward at your armpit, holding again for 20-30 seconds.
3. Perform this stretch three times on each side.
