Workstation Lighting, National Athletic Training Month, Crocodile Breathing

Workstation Lighting

Appropriate lighting can enhance your workstation and minimize eye fatigue and strain.  Check your workspace for glare on the monitor.  Position any task lighting or desk lamps so that they do not create glare. Evaluate your monitor for dust buildup, which can also increase glare.  Tilting your monitor and using blinds can also help reduce glare. Finally, consider taking advantage of the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds to reduce eye fatigue during computer work.

National Athletic Training Month

March is National Athletic Training Month. This year’s theme is “care that you can count on”.  CIPS embodies that message, as you can count on your CIPS Athletic Trainer to empower you to keep your musculoskeletal system healthy, facilitate your team's warm-up, help you optimize your mobilization and movement patterns, identify and correct improper body mechanics, and more.  Click this link to sign up for CareerCare® today!

Crocodile Breathing

Crocodile breathing is a form of diaphragmatic breathing in which you lie on the ground on your stomach, mimicking a crocodile's position. Lay face down, with your arms resting and your forehead on your hands, as pictured. Inhale slowly through your nose for 3-4 seconds, while pushing your belly to the ground.  Exhale through your mouth for 4-6 seconds, allowing the body to sink into the floor.  Repeat for 10-15 breaths.  This technique encourages deep breathing, which can assist with core activation, recovery, and postural improvement, among other benefits.
