Get a Grip, Embrace the Outdoors, October - Health Literacy Month

Get a Grip

Tasks that can require routine gripping and create a risk of injury due to repetition over time.  When high force gripping is required, there is also the risk of a more acute injury.  While wearing gloves, the force necessary to perform the task increases.  To reduce the risk of injury, practice micro pause stretching by taking short breaks and stretching the hand and wrist while performing repetitive tasks.  Using the right tool for the job can also reduce the required grip strength.Your hands, fingers, and wrists perform thousands of tasks every day.

Embrace the Outdoors

Fall is a great season to refresh your fitness routine! Enjoy cooler days with outdoor activities like hiking or biking, and balance them with indoor workouts such as gym classes or home exercises. Stay motivated by mixing things up. Always dress in layers to adapt to changing weather and stay hydrated even when it’s cooler. As temperatures drop, prioritize a proper warm-up to prevent stiffness and injury. Embrace the season and keep moving!
