PrePlanning the Job, CoEnzyme Q10, Good Mornings

Pre Planning the Job

Evaluating a job or individual task for hazards before starting helps you prepare to complete the job safely by having a plan in place. Each work setting has areas of focus before work begins to mitigate hazards. For example, if you are an office worker, you can plan “ergo breaks” before your day begins to restore blood flow disrupted by the static posture of desk work. If you work in the field, consider which physical tasks you are performing and formulate solutions to lessen the stress on the musculoskeletal system. For example, planning to use mechanical means instead of physical means, or rotating a strenuous task among crew members, are great solutions to reduce physical strain.

CoEnzyme Q10

CoEnzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring chemical in the body that acts as a cellular protector and assists in energy transfer.  Deficiency can contribute to decreased energy production at the cellular level, which can manifest in the muscles, kidneys, and the heart, amongst other systems.  Dietary sources include fish, nuts, whole grains, and green vegetables such as spinach.  Advanced age, statin users, heart failure, kidney disease, diabetes, and cancer can increase the likelihood of deficiency in this important molecule.

Good Mornings

“Good Mornings” are an excellent way to strengthen your leg muscles and improve back stability.

  • Start with your feet about hip-width apart and engage your core.

  • While keeping a neutral spine with a slight bend in your knees, hinge at your hips to lower your torso.

  • When you feel a stretch in your hamstrings, move back to the starting position.

Perform the movement with control, avoiding excessive spinal rotation and flexion.
