Cognitive Ergonomics, Summer Sun Safety Month, Deadlifting

Cognitive Ergonomics

When people think of ergonomics, they often associate it with physical movement or body positioning. Cognitive Ergonomics focuses on how the brain processes information to perform physical behavior. The brain needs to process factors such as decision-making and information learned to communicate with the body and safely move.

Summer Sun Safety Month

Long-term health begins with strong skincare habits. Frequent or prolonged exposure to UV light can damage your skin and potentially lead to skin cancer. Here are a few ways to protect your skin year-round:

  • Wear a hat and sunglasses.

  • Stay in shaded areas when able.

  • Wear long sleeves and pants. If this is not possible or practical, wear clothing made with UV protection.

  • Wear sunscreen with at least 30 SPF and reapply every two hours.

  • Plan outdoor activities in the morning or late afternoon

Deadlifting

Deadlifts are a great way to build strength in the core, legs, and back. To perform them effectively:

  • Start with your feet shoulder-width apart and toes facing forward.

  • Position the barbell close to your shins.

  • Keep your back flat and core engaged.

  • Hinge at the hips with a slight bend in the knees and lift the barbell until you're standing tall.

Perform 2-3 sets of 6-8 reps, depending on the weight used
