Make Small Adjustments
Kaizen is the Japanese term associated with striving to be 1% better each day. When someone tries to make too many changes or a significant change in their life, it can shock the body and increase the odds of failure. Making small changes each day, or even each week or month, can have a considerable impact. Try applying this to ergonomics! Rather than trying to improve everything at once, use one ergonomic principle, such as adjusting postures and positions to reduce static posture, and observe the differences it can make in your body.
Natural Light to Start the Day
Starting your day with natural sunlight will help regulate your circadian rhythm and improve melatonin production, enhancing the quality of your sleep. Another benefit is that the morning sun can help increase your vitamin D levels, which in turn can improve your mood. Recent studies have also shown a possible decrease in blood pressure as a result of morning exposure to natural light, which can improve cardiovascular health.
Lifting Weights with a Mirror
If you're struggling with form during your workouts, try lifting weights in front of a mirror. A mirror is not used for vanity reasons, but it can help you check your form while performing the lift. Watching yourself will help keep your body even and prevent overcompensating on one side. Monitor that the body and joints are moving in harmony and the body is not shifting or tilting to one side. Reduce weight or repetitions if need be to allow the weaker side of the body to catch up with the stronger side.
