Staying Warm in Colder Weather, Decreasing Holiday Stress, Stretching Your Chest
Staying Warm in Colder Weather
With colder temperatures approaching, try these tips to stay warm inside and outside:
Keep the doors closed to rooms you aren’t using
Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, and warm clothing - stash layers if you get hot - sweat chills you
Working outside? Cover your mouth to protect your lungs, and find somewhere warm to take your break
Eat regularly to give your body energy to heat itself
Drink warm liquids while avoiding caffeine and alcohol
Decreasing Holiday Stress
Holidays are a time for family and cheer, but the seemingly endless list of “to-dos” can be overwhelming. These factors can bring unwanted stress and depression at a time meant for happiness. Try the practical tips below to minimize your stress during these festive times:
Plan your time & your holiday budget
Saying “no” is okay
Maintain healthy habits of eating, working out, and sleeping
Be realistic - you’re only 1 person
Take a break for self-care
Stretching Your Chest
Desk jobs, driving, and moving items all have one thing in common - we use our chest, shoulder, and arm muscles. In doing so, they can become shortened and their flexibility limited. Stretching becomes key! Bend your elbows and interlock your fingers behind your head, gently squeeze your shoulder blades together & move your elbows backwards. You can vary your hand height to emphasize the shoulders and/or chest. Perform each stretch 2-4 times, holding for 10-30 seconds.
